Journey to the Cross

What the cross generally represents to most people would be this:

In the annals of time, where legends are forged and tales become legacy, the cross stands as an eternal beacon. It is the embodiment of pride, a standard raised high in the face of adversity. It is the mark of honour, a testament to the fearless hearts that beat with courage. The cross is the keeper of belief, a silent vow that whispers of faith unshaken by the storms of doubt.

It is the herald of truth, an unwavering light that pierces through the veils of deception. The cross is the scale of justice, balancing the deeds of mortals in the unforgiving court of consequence. From the hallowed halls of history to the boundless horizons of tomorrow, the cross has stood and shall stand, as the sentinel of these sacred virtues.

In both the breath of life and the silence of death, the cross remains immutable, a symbol transcending the ephemeral tides of time. It is the legacy we inherit and the gift we bestow, a testament to the indomitable spirit that endures… from the dusk of the past to the dawn of the future.

But from a Christian perspective, the cross is far more than a symbol:

It is the profound emblem of sacrifice, redemption, and unconditional love. It represents the pivotal moment in history when Jesus Christ, the Son of God, bore the sins of humanity upon His shoulders, offering Himself as the ultimate sacrifice on the cross at Calvary. This act of divine love opened the way for salvation and eternal life for all who believe.

The cross is a reminder of the hope that springs from faith, the grace that is greater than all transgressions, and the promise of life everlasting. It calls believers to live with integrity, compassion, and justice, following the teachings and example of Christ.

It is a call to carry our cross, to live a life of service and sacrifice for the good of others, embodying the virtues of pride, honour, belief, truth, and justice in daily actions.

Thus, in the Christian faith, the cross transcends time and space, linking the past to the present, life to death, and earth to heaven. It is a symbol of a love so vast that it encompasses all of creation, a beacon of light in a world in need of redemption.

So when we hear “Journey to the Cross” spoken by a street pastor or evangelist, maybe in a church you are visiting whilst a priest or vicar is talking to visitors, consider what I have written above. Remember an old saying “A journey starts with one step or first gear”.

Your first step will not be a physical one, but a spiritual one. It will be when you open your heart to Jesus and accept His gift of salvation. Don’t be afraid to feel a little overwhelmed at that time, you may even be brought to tears and find it hard to breathe.

Trust me, from experience, I can tell you that when your soul is bared to Christ, the love you will feel is beyond anything you will ever encounter during the rest of your life. I cried like a child when I gave my life to Jesus, and then a warmth came over me and in my head, I heard this – “You have found your one true love, follow me” and I was given this:

Psalm 23:1-6

(NKJV) The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.

Peace be with you.
